Poland will prepare and use civilian airports for military purposes.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of National Defense, stated this.
Maciej Lasek, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Government Commissioner for the Construction of the Central Communication Port, said that negotiations are underway with the Ministry of National Defense on “the dual use of Polish airports for both civilian and military purposes.”
This will make it possible to deploy combat aircraft on them, as well as to use them as temporary bases for troops.
According to Lasek, the preparation of the dual-use infrastructure is currently underway, and the work is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense under a flexible scheme.
“Preparatory processes are underway at Krakow Airport, a cargo hub is being built at Katowice and Wroclaw airports, as well as a railway line and fuel supply,” he added.
During a press conference after the government meeting on Tuesday, February 25, 2024, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was asked about the negotiations between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Infrastructure on adapting civilian airports for military use.
“Each airport should be adapted to the possible cooperation and work with the military,” Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.
Poland currently has dual-use airports, such as Krakow, which has a civilian airport and a separate military sector.
The details of this plan are currently under development, as it is being formed jointly with several agencies.
The Minister of Defense has set up a team to develop infrastructure as part of the Poland-Middle Pomerania Security Pact Report project.
Militarnyi previously reported that Polish President Andrzej Duda believes that during Donald Trump’s second presidency, the Polish-American alliance will be strengthened.
According to Duda, during the talks with the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the issues of strengthening the Polish-American military alliance and further US plans for NATO activities were discussed.
He pointed out that during the previous four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, “we strengthened Polish security.” He also noted that Poland then signed numerous security and defense agreements.
