On January 14, Poland launched a new electronic reconnaissance ship, Henryk Zygalski.
The announcement was made on the Polish Armed Forces’ website.
This is the second ship under Poland’s Delfin program. The launch marks a key milestone in the construction process, following the steel cutting and keel laying, which took place in April and July of 2023, respectively.
Before Henryk Zygalski is commissioned, it will be equipped with the necessary reconnaissance systems. The ship will also undergo a series of sea trials.
The Polish shipbuilding company Remontowa Shipbuilding is carrying out the contract for the design, construction, delivery, and logistical support of two ships, which was signed in November 2022 between the Polish Armaments Agency and the Saab Group.
Saab is serving as the main contractor, designing and integrating the specialized equipment.
The first ship of the series was launched on July 1, 2025, and was named Jerzy Rozycki.
The total cost of the order is nearly € 600 million.
The delivery of two new reconnaissance ships to the Polish Navy is expected to be completed by 2027.
This class of ships in the Polish Navy has been named Delfin. They will be largely similar to the Swedish Navy’s radio-electronic reconnaissance ship, HMS Artemis (A202).
Little is known about the specifications of the Swedish ship, which serves as the basis for the new reconnaissance ships for Poland. Its length is 74 meters, and its displacement is 2,200 tons.
The procurement of these new specialized ships is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces in maritime radio-electronic reconnaissance.
