Poland will hand over light 60-mm mortars and 40-mm hand grenade launchers to Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during a visit to the Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów on Friday, February 4, spoke about the hand over weapons to Ukraine, Polska Zbrojna reports.

The head of the Polish government said that next week Poland will send a shipment of armaments to our state that can be used to protect against a possible Russian attack.

“The first shipment will leave our eastern border this coming week so that Ukrainians are not defenseless to Russian aggression,” he stressed.

Poland sees increasing pressure and aggression from Russia on Ukraine.

“We see the determination to defend ourselves from the Ukrainian side, but there is not enough equipment, so we have to act quickly,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister explained that Poland will first supply one hundred weapons unit. Among them are 60 mm LMP-2017 light infantry mortars and, possibly, RGP-40 revolver-type grenade launchers.

The LMP-2017 light infantry mortar is used to destroy manpower, light field fortifications as well as firearms and military technology with semi-indirect fire (the target visible from the fire position) in optical visibility at any time of the day and in all weather conditions. The plant offers LMP-2017 in two calibers: Polish 59.4 mm and NATO 60.7 mm according to STANAG 4425.2. Intended to be hand aimed.

Grenade launcher

RGP-40 revolver grenade launcher has a weight of 6.5 kg and a 250 mm barrel. The drum magazine has a capacity of 6 rounds and the chamber are 140 mm in length. It only takes 3-4 seconds to empty the 6 round drum.

The range of its shots depends on the type of ammunition. It ranges from 400 meters – when using 40mm x 46SR NATO LV grenades with an initial speed of about 78 m per second, to about 800 meters – using 40mm x 51SR with an initial speed of about 120m per second.

RGP-40 launcher has been fitted with four Picatinny rails that may be used to accessorize the weapon. The main, top rail is destined to host sighting system, e.g. in a form of the GLS-203 reflector sight which, currently, is the primary sight system dedicated for this weapon. The remaining three rails have been placed on the handguard.
