Germany is currently unable to supply Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this in comments reported by DW, noting that Germany has already made a “disproportionately large contribution” by transferring more than one-third of its own Patriot systems to Ukraine.

Therefore, further deliveries are currently impossible, as the Bundeswehr is itself waiting for replacement systems for those transferred to Ukraine and must maintain its ability to train personnel to operate and service Patriot air defense systems.

Pistorius also acknowledged that the number of IRIS-T air defense systems supplied to Ukraine is insufficient, given the growing intensity of Russian attacks.

According to him, Germany currently remains the only country capable of supplying these systems to Kyiv and is doing so “in a sense, on an ongoing basis.”

As part of its military assistance, Germany has transferred a total of five Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

The German defense company Diehl Defence has opened a new production facility in the town of Nonnweiler (Saarland) and plans to increase IRIS-T production to ten air defense systems as early as this year.

The company has also already invested €1.5 billion to expand its production capacity and is expected soon to reach a production rate of 2,000 missiles per year.
