On the night of October 17-18, the Ulyanovsk region of Russia was attacked by drones, which resulted in a fire on the territory of the 500 kV Veshkaima high-voltage substation.

According to local channels, at least four drones hit power lines, which led to a power outage in the area.

As of 6:59 a.m., the fire had not yet been extinguished.

The Veshkaima substation belongs to Rosseti and is one of the key substations in the structure of the Volga main power grid.

Powerful transit flows of electricity pass through Veshkaima, connecting the Ulyanovsk, Mordovian, Chuvash and Samara power systems.

The facility also transmits electricity from the Sizranskaya and Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power plants to the central regions of Russia.

The city of Veshkaima is a district center in the Ulyanovsk region and is located approximately 710 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
