In the Kupiansk sector, the paratroopers of the 77th Brigade disrupted a Russian offensive operation that had been in preparation for about three weeks.
The communications department of the 77th Airmobile Brigade released footage of the combat operation.
The soldiers of the 77th Airmobile Brigade report that the Russian invaders had been amassing equipment and personnel for several weeks in preparation for a major offensive operation.
After assembling a strike group of 16 armored vehicles and a large number of infantry, the enemy intensified its actions. At six in the morning, the Russians began artillery preparation on Ukrainian positions, under the cover of which the first assault groups advanced for the attack.
“The enemy carried out intense fire strikes using artillery, mortars, MLRS, drone-dropped munitions, FPV drones, and guided bombs,” the soldiers reported.
During this time, an assault group of 16 armored vehicles attempted to swiftly cross the gray zone and approach Ukrainian positions. However, the lead vehicles in the column struck anti-tank mines and were immediately targeted by FPV drones. By 10 a.m., the enemy’s first assault had been completely thwarted.
At noon, the Russians regrouped and launched another attempt to breach the defense, this time without armored vehicles. However, their attack was once again decisively repelled.
The military estimated that as a result of the failed offensive, the enemy had lost 60 soldiers killed and 28 wounded.
Also, 12 armored vehicles were destroyed, including modernized BMP-1AMs and modified MT-LBs, as well as one tank.
The brigade emphasizes that the success of the defense was largely due to effective planning and the coordinated efforts of command units. However, judging by the combat footage, sappers and drone operators also played a significant role in the operation.
“Even during the periods of relative calm, all units remain in full combat readiness and continue their work—mining key approach routes, conducting reconnaissance, enhancing FPV drones, striking enemy fortifications, and gathering intelligence to detect enemy strike groups before they can advance,” said the commander of one of the airmobile units of the 77th Airmobile Brigade.
Last month, Militarnyi reported on the defensive preparations of the 77th Brigade, where drone-assisted remote mining plays a crucial role. Thanks to this tactic, the enemy suffered losses even before reaching the brigade’s positions.
