Kongsberg and Thales announced the successful testing of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) from the StrikeMaster launcher at a test site in Norway.
The launch was carried out from a combat vehicle based on the Australian Bushmaster armored vehicle, confirming its suitability as a mobile platform for launching cruise missiles.
A training and test sample, known as a blast test vehicle (BTV), containing the missile’s cruise engine, was used during the test. Its launch allowed the safety of the NSM launch in a ground configuration to be verified.
The NSM is a low-profile fifth-generation cruise missile designed to engage heavily protected sea and land targets.
It is already in service or has been ordered by 14 countries, including the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Norway, and Australia. In 2024, the missile officially entered service with the Australian Navy.
StrikeMaster is the Australian version of the NSM CDS coastal missile system, adapted by KONGSBERG. It is based on the Bushmaster platform and includes a launcher for two missiles, a fire control station, and a reloading vehicle — all components are manufactured using Australian technology.
StrikeMaster production is being rolled out in Australia at Kongsberg Defence Australia and Thales Australia facilities in Adelaide and Bendigo.
