Saab received an order from Norway to purchase HE 448 rounds for the Carl-Gustaf M4.
The order is signed within a 15-year framework agreement that allows the Norwegian Armed Forces to place orders for Carl-Gustaf ammunition and weapons.
This includes the new programmable high explosive round HE 448, among other ammunition types.
In January 2021, Norway became the 14th customer ordering Carl-Gustaf M4.
“We are pleased to continue to support the Norwegian Armed Forces with our Carl-Gustaf ammunition. These munitions will further strengthen Norwegian defence capability,“ says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics.
The programmable high explosive ammunition HE 448 was presented in July 2021.
It should replace the HE 441D/441D RS round.
The HE 448 possesses an electronic detonator with two modes: when it contacts with a target, or during air detonation at a given distance.
Unlike its predecessor, it has 4,200 ready-made spherical fragments with a diameter of 3 mm from tungsten, instead of 800 steel ones with a diameter of 6 mm each.
Its maximum practical distance has also increased to 1,500 meters.
The wide range of ammunition available for these grenade launchers further enhances the tactical flexibility of the system, providing faster engagement, increased accuracy, and greater efficiency for soldiers.
As previously reported, in March 2022, it became known that Norway would hand over an additional 2,000 grenade launchers to Ukraine.
