The Netherlands has strengthened its air defense with a new Ground Master 400a radar.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence announced this.

The new radar was installed in Nieuw-Milligen, Gelderland.

It will temporarily create an enhanced radar field that will provide new capabilities for detecting air targets both over the territory of the Netherlands and the North Sea.

The installed radar manufactured by Thales will be used as a temporary solution.

The radar will later be replaced by the SMART-L long-range radar, which will be able to provide early target detection.

The GM-400 radar, developed by the French company Thales in 2007, provides a range of air target detection of up to 470 km in the standard version and up to 515 km in the Alpha version.

The use of an active phased array S-band antenna ensures the detection of subtle targets at long distances and allows you to focus on detected targets in a specific sector of the view.

The radar uses a single rotating array capable of 10 rotations per minute.

In addition, research is underway to develop an artificial intelligence system that will automatically classify targets and detect objects that may pose a threat.

Militarnyi previously reported that the United States approved the serial production of the latest LTAMDS radars to replace the old Patriot radars.

The order is funded by the US RTD&E research and development program and Poland under the Foreign Military Sales program, which ordered 12 radars for six Patriot PAC-3 batteries in September 2023.
