Five rehabilitation hospitals are to be equipped in Ukraine with the financial support of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Natalia Kalmykova, Deputy Minister of Defense, announced this during a roundtable discussion titled “Successes and Challenges of Rehabilitation of Military in Ukraine – Search for Solutions.”

“Under the Recovery program, we plan to finance and provide the necessary equipment to 5 rehabilitation hospitals of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Repair works are already underway at one of the hospitals in the Kyiv region,” Kalmykova said.

Kalmykova also said that two more hospitals in Kyiv and Vinnytsia regions are currently being repaired with donor funds.

In addition, a unified information system is currently being developed between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health.

“For each of our defenders would enter our Ministry of Defense system with information from civilian life. And come back to civilian life with a full package of information. So that doctors could have a base for further work. They would understand what is needed and what has already been done,” Kalmykova added.

Development of infrastructure for rehabilitation

In May, it was reported that a modern gym with rehabilitation equipment for military personnel and veterans was opened within the Kyiv Military Hub space, where they can exercise for free.

The gym is equipped with modern rehabilitation simulators used to train military personnel with amputated limbs and people who use wheelchairs.

In the gym, there is an opportunity to work out independently or with a rehabilitation therapist.

In March, Militarnyi reported that the Foundation of the American philanthropist Dell Loy Hansen and the Kyiv Regional Military Administration began collaboration on developing the concept of a modern rehabilitation center for Ukrainian military personnel and civilians.

This modern center will meet both the physical and psychological needs of military personnel and civilians.

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration explained that the project requires considerable investment, so its implementation requires the involvement of a range of philanthropists, and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
