Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that Ukraine will receive NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems this month.
He spoke about this on the live telethon, reports LIGA.
New anti-aircraft systems will help strengthen the air defense of Ukraine.
Reznikov noted that Ukrainian specialists are now studying to operate at NASAMS air defense systems, which should come from the United States.
On September 16, the Pentagon reported that the first two NASAMS SAM batteries would arrive in Ukraine within the next two months.
In late August, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded Raytheon Missiles & Defense to purchase two NASAMS systems. The transaction amounts to $182 million. However, the Pentagon clarified that the U.S. Army would receive these air defense systems no earlier than August 2024.
Therefore, it is likely that the air defense systems promised to Ukraine will be supplied from the United States Army or allies.
On October 12, the UK announced the transfer to Ukraine of AMRAAM missiles, intended for NASAMS air defense systems.
According to United Kingdom Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace, these missiles will help Ukraine protect the sky and strengthen missile defense.
The Netherlands also announced the transfer of air defense equipment to Ukraine for a total of 15 million euros on October 12.
NASAMS air defense systems are designed to defeat aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and enemy cruise missiles. The system comprises mobile launchers, each of which has six containers with anti-aircraft missiles. The SAM also includes radar stations.
The range of the anti-aircraft system in the NASAMS II configuration using AIM-120С AMRAAM missiles is up to 25 km, and the operational altitude reaches 14-15 km.
