More than 140 companies in Ukraine produce electronic warfare (EW) equipment for the military.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, shared this in an op-ed on RBC-Ukraine.

According to the Minister, to launch an open market for electronic warfare equipment, Ukraine has simplified bureaucracy, created competition between manufacturers, and signed systemic government contracts.

“When Brave1 started working in this area, there were about ten electronic warfare solutions in Ukraine. Now, more than 140 companies are engaged in their production,” Fedorov noted.

The official also said that the Brave1 defense technology cluster has already issued 19 grants worth UAH 22.8 million to Ukrainian companies to develop electronic warfare.

Fedorov believes that one of the most important results of Ukrainian manufacturers is the creation of the so-called “trench electronic warfare” of short-range. Such systems are designed to protect military personnel in combat positions from enemy drones.

In his column, the Minister notes that Ukraine had no development in this area before the full-scale war. And now, the importance of electronic warfare is only growing.

Now, in his opinion, Ukraine should focus on the development of electronic warfare to protect civilians, critical infrastructure, and the front line.

In October, the Ministry of Defense reported that since January 2024, the Defense Procurement Agency has signed contracts to supply electronic warfare equipment worth more than UAH 6 billion. In total, more than 11,000 electronic warfare devices have been contracted. Most of them are made in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense said that several thousand electronic warfare systems worth more than UAH 1 billion were contracted in September and October alone.

It was specified that these were mainly portable short-range systems. They can be used to equip vehicles and equipment to protect crews from enemy FPV drones.

Recently, the Ukrainian company Kvertus presented the Atlas project, which aims to protect the entire front line from enemy radio-controlled drones. It combines electronic warfare and electronic warfare.
