The MBDA consortium has announced the resumption of production for the Franco-British SCALP/Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles.
Sébastien Lecornu, French Minister of the Armed Forces, confirmed the news.
“Production of SCALP missiles to equip our armed forces will recommence in 2025, marking 15 years since our last order,” the statement reads.
The missiles are manufactured at the facilities of MBDA’s British division in Stevenage.

These missiles have been actively used during the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, as additionally noted by the French Minister of the Armed Forces.
It is quite likely that, in addition to replenishing the arsenals of the British Royal Air Force and the French Air and Space Force, some of the new missiles may be transferred to Ukraine.
As early as December 2024, the French Senate announced plans for ammunition orders, including SCALP cruise missiles.
The Franco-British Storm Shadow/SCALP EG is a long-range air-to-ground missile.
It is designed to penetrate air defense systems and destroy important stationary and immobile targets, including bunkers.
The missile is 5.1 meters long, has a flight weight of up to 1,300 kg, and carries a warhead weighing 450 kg.
The French version of the missile, called SCALP EG, and the British Storm Shadow are generally identical; the differences lie only in the software and the aircraft designated to carry the missile.
The declared launch range of the cruise missile is over 250 km in the export version and up to 560 km for the French and British armed forces.
