A military logistics and equipment hub which will receive thousands of units of military equipment, has been opened in Powidz.

The press service of the Ministry of Defense of Poland reports.

This is the largest infrastructure project financed by NATO and the United States in the last 30 years.

The LTESM-C center was built on the model of U.S. bases. The depots of the center will store tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery, technical security vehicles and self-propelled bridges.

In total, approximately 2,700 weapons will be deployed, the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw adds.

“The possibility of storing military equipment at this base will significantly shorten the reaction time of the U.S. forces, which will strengthen the security of Poland and the entire eastern flank of NATO. The security system we are building is based on this principle,” said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

He noted that the hub was an important element of deterring the aggressor and a manifestation of solidarity within the North Atlantic Alliance.

The hub will allow to quickly receive reinforcements from allies. After all, it reduces the time of their complete equipment from a month and a half (in case of transfer of equipment from the United States) to a few days.

LTESM-C occupies 60,000 m² of warehouse space with adjustable humidity levels. Equipment and materials needed for repair and operation can be stored there.

Implementation of the project took six years and cost NATO and the U.S. $360 million. This is the largest one-time investment in the infrastructure of the alliance in 30 years.

In recent years, Washington and Warsaw have invested heavily in the network of facilities used by American forces in Poland. Poland has become the center of the American military’s efforts to contain Russian aggression on NATO’s eastern flank.

As previously reported, the Polish Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-abędy S.A has recently begun servicing Ukrainian T-64 tanks.
