Lithuania will allocate €30 million and join several European countries in a joint effort to purchase Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine.
Lithuanian National Radio and Television reported on this.
“Lithuania has made clear its commitment to supporting the procurement of U.S.-produced weaponry for Ukraine, particularly the Patriot air defense systems. (…) We plan to contribute up to €30 million to this initiative, sending a strong strategic signal of our support, including a positive response to President Trump’s recent decision,” Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė shared following a meeting between the Baltic defense ministers and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Germany announced its intention to help supply five Patriot air defense batteries to Ukraine in cooperation with other partner countries.
The German Defense Minister stated that his country would provide “additional air defense systems and much-needed ammunition,” and would also “help ensure the delivery of five essential Patriot systems as quickly as possible.”
Germany and Norway have expressed their readiness to jointly fund the purchase of a total of three Patriot batteries for Ukraine. As a result, partner efforts are likely to focus on securing funding for the remaining two systems.
The promised number of air defense systems matches that specified in the recently postponed “Swiss” contract. However, this does not necessarily mean Ukraine will receive those exact systems, as the first Patriot battery originally intended for Switzerland is not expected to be available for delivery for six to eight months.
In this regard, the North Atlantic Alliance convened a meeting of commanders to accelerate the delivery of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
