Lithuania has started deploying new U.S.-made AN/TPS-77 MRR mobile medium-range radars.
The country’s Ministry of National Defence reported this.
Lockheed Martin manufactured the radars, which are designed to detect and track aerial targets at ranges of up to 470 km and altitudes of up to 30 km.
NATO is incorporating the modern 3D radars into its integrated air and missile defense system.
“These radars have already been delivered to Lithuania, and our military has begun deploying them. By the end of this year, we will sign additional contracts to further strengthen both the detection and neutralization of aerial threats,” the Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas reported.
In 2023, the United States ordered these radars for Lithuania through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
The $52 million contract covers delivery of three radars, personnel training, spare parts, and manufacturer technical support.
