Latvia has developed a national military buggy VR-1-Fox, and the military has already begun participating in its tests.
Delfi reported on this development.
It was developed by the Latvian company VR Cars.
According to the company’s owner and author of the idea, Ali Jansons, the idea of such a vehicle arose as a result of analyzing the design and availability of such vehicles on the market.
“We discussed what cars are available. We came to the conclusion that everything was outdated,” Jansons stated.
VR Cars has experience in building and repairing racing cars, and this experience formed the basis for the first prototype.
The feedback after its presentation was varied and openly skeptical.
“There were people who said that one could be welded in three evenings, and there were also those who claimed that it was impossible to build a car from scratch in Latvia,” Jansons said.
The finished Fox is proof that both sides were wrong. It is possible to build such a car from scratch, but certainly not in three evenings.
Fox is currently undergoing intensive testing by the Latvian Armed Forces.
“All units say that the Fox will be useful for the task,” says Aivars Ronis, senior officer of the Joint Staff of the Latvian Armed Forces.
While the famous Patria 6×6, which is already being manufactured in Latvia, including for use in Ukraine, is more of an armored vehicle, the Fox looks more like a large ATV or buggy.
The developers have produced a vehicle with a high level of unification and ease of maintenance. All suspension elements in the four wheels are identical and interchangeable.
“The main task was to make the soldier as comfortable as possible,” explains Jansons.
The engine was used from a production Ford, the model of which is not specified, and the range is estimated at 700-900 kilometers.
