The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers has greenlit a €10 million investment to support Ukraine’s drone industry.
According to the Latvian Ministry of Defense, the decision was approved during a closed meeting of the government.
“The Cabinet of Ministers has endorsed a strategic €10 million investment in Ukraine’s drone industry, aimed at fostering stronger cooperation between the defense sectors of both nations and facilitating the implementation of joint projects,” the statement reads.
Additionally, the Latvian government has allocated another €20 million for drone purchases this year within the framework of the Drone Coalition.
“It is crucial to support Ukraine not just with words, but with meaningful action,” Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said. “Latvia’s support for Ukraine has always been tangible, providing real assistance that strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities.”
According to the published information of the Latvian Ministry of Defense, the total support of all Drone Coalition member countries for Ukraine’s drone capabilities in 2024 reached €1.8 billion.
In 2024, Latvia allocated €20 million to the Drone Coalition. Last year, Latvia supplied almost 5,000 drones to Ukraine.
“Latvia will continue to support Ukraine against Russian aggression until Ukraine’s victory,” the Defense Ministry stated.
In February, Latvia sent Ukraine the first batch of strike drones in 2025 as part of an international coalition of drones.
This is likely the first batch of 12,000 drones that the minister recently announced would be transferred to Ukraine.
According to Sprūds, all drones are to be delivered in the first half of 2025. Two Latvian companies will produce them in the coming months for €17 million.
The International Drone Coalition is led by Latvia and the United Kingdom. It was formed in February 2024. It currently includes 17 countries, with Norway recently joining.
