Russian forces struck the city of Kamianske in the Dnipro region using UMPK/Grom-type jet-powered guided bombs (KABs), the monitoring channel Monitor reported on Telegram.
The media outlet recorded three fast-moving munitions approaching the city, followed by explosions and reports of smoke rising over Kamianske on local social media.
This class of weapon had not previously hit the city. Located more than 120 km from the front line, Kamianske had been mainly targeted with drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Monitor said this was the first recorded use of KAB bombs with jet propulsion in the city.
The strike underscored a widening use of newly modified guided bombs equipped with jet propulsion, which analysts say extend their range to about 200 km.
On the evening of October 18, Russian aviation reportedly used a new modification of a guided bomb on the city of Lozova in the Kharkiv region. Prosecutors reported that the munition was a UMPB-5R-type KAB bomb that traveled about 130 km — the first recorded use of that type in Lozova.
Subsequent analysis of the wreckage reportedly found a Chinese-made jet engine, marked SW800Pro-Y, from Swiwin. The engine, intended for use in drones and large model aircraft, has a maximum thrust of about 80 kgf at 65,000 rpm, weighs roughly 10 kg, and is available on several commercial platforms.
