Israel rejected the US request to allow Berlin to supply Ukraine with anti-tank missiles produced in Germany under Israeli technology and license.
This was reported by Axios with reference to two officials of the United States and Israel.
The publication notes that the issue of supplying weapons is one of the last political differences between the United States and Israel when it comes to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to the publication, Colin Kahl, US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy had a meeting with Amir Eshel, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, and raised questions about the efforts of the Biden administration to encourage countries to supply weapons to Ukraine.
In addition, the United States representative asked whether Israel would allow Germany to transfer the Spike anti-tank missiles to Ukraine.
Axios writes that Eshel rejected the request, replying to Kahl that Israel would only supply non-lethal military equipment to Ukraine.
According to the source, the official said that Israel is concerned that the Russian military will be killed with Israeli-made weapons, which could lead to Russia harming Israel’s security interests in Syria.
It is noted that these anti-tank missiles are produced at the enterprise in Germany. Under the licensing agreement, Israel must approve any transfer of missiles to third countries.
The Spike-LR multirole anti-tank missile system is designed to defeat modern armored vehicles, fortifications, and enemy manpower, ranging from 200m to 4(5) km.
Spike missiles are used for arming combat helicopters, and surface ships. They are placed on vehicles of various types, as well as can be used in a portable version.
The Spike-LR system (Long Range) is part of the ATGM family of the Israeli company Rafael, which includes: a light Spike-SR with a firing range of up to 1500m, Spike-MR with a range of up to 2500m, Spike-ER with a range of up to 8000m, Spike-NLOS with a range of up to 25km.
It was previously reported that Israel`s political and military officials are increasingly inclined to intensify its military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
