Israel is studying the possibility of supplying Ukraine with its Iron Dome air defense missile system.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this in an interview with the French channel LCI.
According to him, Israel should review all possible options and take into account its own interests in the region.
Netanyahu noted that the issue of supplying weapons to Ukraine had been considered before, but discarded by the former Israeli government.
He promised to study the issue after the formation of the country’s new government.
The Prime Minister adds that Israel can contribute in other areas.
However, Benjamin Netanyahu assured that he could not “make a final promise” regarding the supply of weapons.
“We are studying this issue from the point of view of our national interest, we have other considerations. In particular, the close operational proximity between the Israeli Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Their planes are operating in Syrian airspace, so far we have avoided any confrontation. We do not want a military confrontation with Russia,” Netanyahu emphasized.
The Iron Dome can intercept missiles and other aerial targets, ensuring the protection of mission-critical targets. This is a mobile all-weather air defense system developed by the Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Primarily, it is designed to intercept and destroy short-range missiles, while being able to shoot down airplanes, according to the developers.
The system consists of a radar, which detects and fixes air targets (missile or aircraft), a fire control center and several launchers with interceptor missiles.
One battery usually includes three launchers with 20 missiles each.
