Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, claimed that Ukraine is allegedly a “legitimate target” for Iran for “supporting Israel with interceptor drones.”
He wrote this on his X.
“By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, failed Ukraine has effectively become involved in the War and, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, has turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran,” he wrote.
In early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukraine had sent a group of specialists and interceptor drones to Jordan to help protect U.S. military bases from Iranian drones.
The request for assistance came from the United States on March 5, and on March 9, the Ukrainian team departed for its destination.
Ukraine has reportedly received 11 requests from countries neighboring Iran, as well as European states and the United States, for security assistance in countering Iranian Shahed drones and similar threats.
In addition, several Persian Gulf states have expressed interest in purchasing Ukrainian interceptor drones, including Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. No public requests from Israel are known.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump later publicly stated that the United States does not need Ukraine’s assistance in countering Iranian drones.
“No, we do not need their help in defending against drones. We know more about drones than anyone. We actually have the best drones in the world,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Radio.
