Ukrainian journalists reported on Ukrainian Defence Forces recording Russian artillery strikes in the direction of Olenivka.
Ukrainska Pravda reported about this citing its own intelligence sources.
The attack was carried out by the invaders.
Another source of the Ukrainian Pravda said that the other day the Ukrainian prisoners had been transferred to the industrial zone, namely to the barracks hit on July 29.
“These were the barracks with the Azov fighters, they were transferred there a few days before the shelling, we couldn’t understand why,” the source told journalists.
The former Azov Regiment Commander Andriy Biletskyi confirmed that the Russians moved the Regimentʼs soldiers to a separate building.
“The Russian command framed the mass killing of prisoners as the actions of the Ukrainian army. Russians moved the regimentʼs soldiers to a separate building. Propaganda was in full swing – a savage movie about Azovstal was shot. We are collecting information about the victims and the perpetrators of this war crime. It is already obvious that this was a pre-planned act committed by a country that’s not familiar with the concept of officerʼs honor, and even more so with the Geneva Conventions, rules, laws, and customs of war,” he wrote.
On the morning of July 29, Russian propagandists announced the death of 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war. They were kept in a penitentiary facility in the occupied Olenivka village of the Donetsk Region.
The Russian disinformation network is promoting a story of an alleged “attack” at the prison from the Ukrainian side. In addition to the 40 dead, propagandists claim 130 POWs are wounded.
At the time of this publication, the Russian media reports that the number of dead has increased to 53, and the number of wounded – 75 soldiers.
Footage from the Olenivka pretrial detention center was released on Russian television. The video reveals a board on which Ukrainian soldiers were probably recording the number of prisoners. The last record indicated that there were 193 soldiers in the prison.
It is widely known that Olenivka was the place Azovstal defenders were transferred to. In particular, a large number of the Azov Regiment fighters.
The information about the death of the Azov Regiment soldiers was confirmed by the ex-commander of the Azov Regiment Maksym Zhorin in his Telegram channel.
“Today, the prison in Olenivka, where our brothers from Azovstal were kept, was blown up. We do not yet have reliable data on the victims, but there are definitely dead and wounded,” he wrote.
He also added that, in his opinion, which has no official confirmation, the Russians blew up the barracks with prisoners by themselves.
“There is no reason or logic here – they are just insane beasts,” he wrote.
But he urged not to spread information from unverified Russian sources and to wait for official confirmation.
Russian media and Telegram channels release videos featuring dead bodies without specifying the circumstances of their deaths.
