Denmark had no qualms about helping to arm Ukraine, the country has Stinger MANPADS, which Ukraine needs, but they are outdated.
Militarnyi informs with reference to the Danish edition DR.dk.
Morten Bødskov, who was appointed the new defence minister last week, said that Denmark had no qualms about helping to arm Ukraine.
“From the Danish side, we have no qualms about helping to arm Ukraine – even with weapons,” Morten Bødskov said.
The problem is that the surface-to-air Stinger missiles at the disposal of the Ministry of Defence of Denmark are too old.
“Russia has demonstrated completely unacceptable behavior towards Ukraine. We are obliged to help. But this assistance must work,” Bødskov emphasized.
Morten Bødskov confirms that there are Stinger missiles at the disposal of the Ministry of Defence of Denmark. However, there are cautions.
“They are in the warehouse, but they are intended for disposal,” the Minister said.
In turn, Danish Defense Chief Fleming Lentfer assured that apart from these missiles, Copenhagen has nothing else to share with Ukraine.
“We have what we use ourselves, and that we gradually introducing into the Danish defense, into the Danish army. I don’t see anything that we could transfer,” Danish Chief of Defence said.
Despite this, Denmark continues to look for ways to provide defense assistance to Ukraine. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called Russia’s aggressive behavior “unacceptable”. She said the Danish government has made clear to Ukraine that it wants to provide direct assistance, including humanitarian assistance and “potentially also at the military level”.
According to Frederiksen, consultations are currently underway, and the Danish Ministry of Defense is holding a meeting today to discuss specific requests from Ukraine. She did not specify whether it was about the provision of weapons or other forms of assistance.
