Ukrainian defense forces have destroyed a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The video of the attack was posted by the SSU on its social media.
A high-precision missile from the M142 HIMARS launcher was used to destroy the enemy’s equipment.
It was reportedly the officers of the Zaporizhzhia Department of the Security Service of Ukraine who discovered the position of the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system during reconnaissance.
The enemy’s TOS-1A Solntsepyok was supposed to strike at the positions of the Ukrainian military, which were conducting offensive operations in that area of the front.
However, due to the coordination of SSU officers and artillerymen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the heavy flamethrower system was destroyed.
For this purpose, the Ukrainian military launched a high-precision missile from the HIMARS launcher, received by Ukraine from the United States as part of military assistance.
The published video footage shows that the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok is on the edge of a forest next to a field road.
The video captures the moment of impact, followed by the complete destruction of the heavy flamethrower system. The characteristic explosion in the air above the target suggests that it was an M31A1 missile, equipped with thousands of tungsten balls designed to destroy vehicles and manpower.
The report states that the Russian vehicle was destroyed along with the crew and full ammunition. The footage portrays the powerful burning of solid rocket busters of the missiles that were placed on the launcher.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces are destroying such Russian flamethrower systems using a variety of weapons. Earlier, an FPV drone destroyed the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system in the Luhansk region.
This TOS-1А heavy flamethrower system is designed to provide fire support to the units and defeat manpower, positioned in fortified shelters. Unguided rockets with thermobaric warheads are used for fire, having a firing range of 600 m to 6,000 meters. Thermobaric warheads should destroy targets in shelters with high temperatures and high pressure.
