The German company KNDS Deutschland will carry out the final assembly of Patria armored wheeled vehicles for the Bundeswehr at its facility in Freisen.

The Finnish defense company Patria announced this in a press release.

Patria signed the corresponding framework agreement with the German enterprise as part of the implementation of two procurement contracts signed in December 2025.

Joint production is being launched at facilities in Germany, where the equipment will be fitted with specialized components and undergo final assembly.

Serial deliveries to the Bundeswehr will begin in early 2027, along with a gradual expansion of local German production through the transfer of technology and manufacturing expertise.

According to hartpunkt, experts in Freisen are currently working on finalizing the first pre-production prototypes, which the German military received earlier this year.

Starting this fall, the first production vehicles manufactured in Finland will receive their equipment kits directly in Germany.

European countries are purchasing these vehicles as part of the international CAVS program. It includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Norway, and negotiations are underway with the United Kingdom.

The Patria 6×6 is powered by a Scania engine rated at up to 325 kW, paired with a 7-speed ZF automatic transmission, and has a payload capacity of 8.5 tons.

The protection for vehicles weighing up to 24 tons complies with the STANAG 4569 Level 2 standard (7.62×39 mm rounds, 6 kg of explosive beneath a wheel, and fragments). The armor can be upgraded to Level 4 (14.5×114 mm rounds, 10 kg of explosives beneath a wheel, and fragments).

The German Armed Forces are purchasing these APCs to gradually replace their aging fleet of Fuchs armored vehicles.

In total, Germany has ordered more than 800 vehicles in several variants, including those equipped with the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system and the Kongsberg RS4 remote weapon station.
