German prosecutors have launched an investigation into drone flights over industrial facilities in the north of the country, including nuclear power plants.
This became known to the Bild newspaper.
According to the newspaper, which cites an internal police report, several unidentified, possibly Russian drones were spotted over the largest industrial zone in Schleswig-Holstein, where a shutdown nuclear power plant is located.
The prosecutor’s office in the German city of Flensburg has already launched an investigation on suspicion of espionage.
It is noted that drone flights near the shutdown nuclear power plant, a liquefied natural gas terminal and a chemical plant had been recorded since August 8 this year.
The last time a UAV was spotted near industrial enterprises was on August 22, after which the Schleswig-Holstein police put some of its officers on alert.
According to a preliminary version of the Criminal Police, the drones over the German city of Flensburg may be launched by Russians from ships in the North Sea to conduct reconnaissance for sabotage purposes.
It is assumed that these were Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAVs, which had a range of up to 600 kilometers and a speed of up to 150 km/h.
However, it is worth noting that the real range of this Russian reconnaissance drone is longer than the official one.
Given this information, suggests that the Orlan-10 or its modifications, after being launched from ships in the North Sea, fly over Germany for reconnaissance and land in the Kaliningrad oblast of the Russian Federation.
Recently, the German newspaper Spiegel reported that an unknown person had entered the territory of the Cologne-Wahn air base in Germany and probably had poisoned the water. The sabotage became known after a gap in the fence was discovered during an inspection of the airbase.
In addition, the airport police reported several cases of gastrointestinal problems among personnel.
