France has deployed Tiger attack helicopters in the Middle East to counter drones.
General Pierre Schill, Chief of Staff of the French Army, announced this in an interview with Le Point.
The deployment involves four helicopters integrated into the allied defense system in the region.
They complement other French assets, including Rafale fighter jets, which are already used to intercept drones.
The decision comes in response to the growing threat of drone attacks in the Persian Gulf region.
Tiger helicopters are used as a mobile element in a multi-layered air defense system.
Their mission is to intercept targets at close range and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.
The platform is equipped with electro-optical systems and a 30mm cannon, enabling it to effectively engage low-altitude targets.
According to Schill, the cannon is the key tool for countering drones due to its rapid response and lower operational cost.
France is also working on integrating laser-guided missiles for this platform.
According to available information, French forces in the region have already participated in fighting off massive drone attacks, numbering over a thousand.
Previously, France announced plans to upgrade the Tiger helicopters to the Mk.2+ standard.
