Saab and Embraer, together with the Brazilian Air Force, officially presented the first JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jet built in Brazil.
The rollout ceremony was held at Embraer’s industrial facility in Gavião Peixoto, in São Paulo state.
The Gavião Peixoto facility relies on both Brazilian and international supply chains, including aircraft structures produced at Saab’s São Bernardo do Campo plant.
After completing testing, the fighter jet will join the ten Gripen aircraft already based at Anápolis Air Base.
Under the agreement, the partners are to produce 14 more aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force.
The 2014 contract provides for the production of 36 fighter jets, including 28 single-seat Gripen E and 8 two-seat Gripen F aircraft.
It is worth noting that Saab is ready to establish Gripen fighter production in Portugal if it wins the tender to replace the F-16.
