Estonia is ready to deploy its troops to Greenland at Denmark’s request. The island is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, announced this on the social media platform X.

He noted that the Estonian Defence Forces have already joined the planning of the Denmark-led Arctic Endurance joint military exercises involving European countries.

“Estonia is taking part in the planning of joint European military exercises in Greenland and is ready to deploy troops if necessary,” Tsahkna said.

The exercises are taking place against the backdrop of statements by Trump about his intention to establish control over the island.

Meanwhile, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal has also stated that Estonia is ready to consider the possibility of sending its military personnel to Greenland.

He emphasized that the issue of the island’s status is a matter of values and expressed hope that it would be resolved within the framework of NATO.

In addition to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, and Germany have also announced plans to send their troops to Greenland. In total, this involves several dozen soldiers from an advance group tasked with preparing the next stages of Denmark’s Arctic Endurance exercises.

The UK government is also holding talks with its European allies on the possible deployment of a military contingent to Greenland.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the government does not plan to send Polish troops to Greenland.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concerns about the presence of Russian and Chinese forces in the Arctic and described Greenland as strategically important. He stated that it should be brought under U.S. control.

Against the backdrop of these statements, Denmark is moving toward establishing a more permanent and larger-scale military presence in Greenland.
