Drone Crash and Explosion in Poland Identified as Shahed, Says Rzeczpospolita

In eastern Poland, an unknown type of drone crashed and exploded in a field.

Rzeczpospolita reported on this, citing a user on the social network X, PawelSokala, who published a video of the drone exploding in the field.

The explosion occurred approximately 100 km from the border between Ukraine and Poland, in the village of Osiny, and about 40 km from Poland’s capital, Warsaw.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated that no violations of airspace had been recorded from either Ukraine or Belarus.

According to police information, the report of the explosion was received at 2 a.m. local time.

“In a cornfield, we found burnt fragments of various sizes scattered over a radius of several dozen meters. These are remnants of charred metal and plastic,” said Marcin Jóźwik, senior police sergeant.

Despite this, the Polish publication Rzeczpospolita, citing its own sources, claims that a Shahed-131 or Shahed-136 kamikaze drone, which Russia used in attacks on Ukraine on the night of August 19th-20th, exploded in the field.

Following the incident, a municipal meeting was convened to investigate whether the object was a military drone.

At the same time, Polsat journalist Michał Stela posted a photo on his Facebook page of the engine of a drone that exploded in a field.

Militarnyi previously reported that In August 2024, Polish military officials had reported a violation of the country’s airspace during a Russian missile and drone strike on Ukraine on the morning of August 26th.

According to their data, an unknown object entered Polish territory at 6:43 a.m. local time near the Ukrainian city of Chervonohrad.

On March 24th, a Russian cruise missile also violated Polish airspace during a nighttime attack on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, spokesperson for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, stated that the missile had been traveling at nearly 800 kilometers per hour at an altitude of 400 meters. It penetrated approximately 2 kilometers into Polish territory before leaving the country.
