The Russian military was using a prototype of the S-70 Okhotnik heavy drone to strike ground targets.

The remains of a corrected UMPB D-30 bomb were found at the crash site of the Russian unmanned aircraft shot down on October 5.

This is a Russian aerial munition developed on the basis of the FAB-250 bomb, which is equipped with a satellite guidance system. According to some reports, its maximum range can be from 50 to 90 kilometers.

According to the CyberBoroshno OSINT project, the drone went down (here) 15-20 kilometers from the front line in the town of Kostiantynivka, the Kramatorsk district.

Presumably, the drone approached this distance due to loss of control, and then was shot down by a Russian fighter jet to prevent it from reaching the Defense Forces.

The 20-ton drone is capable of carrying missile and bomb weapons weighing up to 2.8 tons in special internal compartments inside the fuselage.

The number and type of weapon pylons have not been disclosed, but the test footage shows that the aircraft can use 500-kilogram munitions.

Prototype

The S-70 used for strike missions is the fourth prototype that was created for factory tests and tested before the Russian invasion in 2022.

According to open data, Russia’s Novosibirsk Aviation Plant has produced only four aircraft of this type.

The fact that the wreckage belongs to this particular aircraft is evidenced by the remains of onboard equipment with the corresponding marking S-70-4 found at the crash site.

As a reminder, work on the heavy drone being developed as part of the Okhotnik program has been underway at Russia’s Sukhoi Design Bureau since 2011.
