Ukrainian company Contra-drone has developed the D-JACK device, designed to take control of FPV drones by disrupting the link between the drone and its operator.
Representatives of the company told Militarnyi about the system during the Contra drone event.
Unlike conventional electronic warfare systems, D-JACK does not generate powerful radio emissions to jam the signal. Instead, it detects the signal from the control transmitter and then interferes with the communication protocol between the operator and the drone.
After the intervention, D-JACK breaks the control link and disconnects the UAV from the operator’s controller, preventing the drone from receiving further commands.
The claimed range for creating a so-called no-fly zone is up to one kilometer. The device’s maximum operating range can reach approximately three kilometers, although this depends on the radio-frequency environment and terrain.
D-JACK is primarily designed to counter FPV drones using analog video and control links.
One of the system’s advantages is its low power consumption. D-JACK operates from a 12–24 V power source, with maximum power consumption of around 10 W.
This allows the device to be powered by a battery and installed, for example, on a pole or tree. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, a standard battery can power the device for up to 12 hours.
A separate D-JACK variant can be installed on fixed-wing aircraft, including reconnaissance, strike, and other unmanned aircraft. In this configuration, the system is intended to protect the aircraft itself from interceptor drones.
The ground-based version of the device weighs approximately 3 kg, while the airborne variant adds around 200 grams to the aircraft. This allows the system to be integrated without significantly affecting the UAV’s weight characteristics.
The device has not yet been codified by the Ukrainian Defense Forces, but D-JACK is already undergoing testing in actual combat conditions. The D-JACK costs approximately €2,000.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported on Contra-drone’s new SENSE-4 drone detector, designed to detect UAVs across frequencies of up to 8.2 GHz.
