Bulgaria will donate small arms and ammunition to Ukraine as part of defense assistance.
This was stated by Nikola Stoyanov, the Minister of Economy and Industry of Bulgaria.
According to him, Ukraine will probably not receive the tanks.
“Based on the decision of the parliament, which was adopted, we will provide assistance to Ukraine. But tanks – no, I think it meant small arms and some ammunition. We help precisely with what we can afford to help at this moment, so that Bulgarian citizens do not worry,” the official said.
He also added that the military aid provided to Ukraine will not affect the combat capability of the Bulgarian army.
The Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria reports that the type and volume of military aid was discussed with Ukraine.
The Bulgarian government dared to provide military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine only at the beginning of last month. A week later, Bulgaria agreed to participate in the EU EUMAM Ukraine training mission.
It is worth noting that the final list of defense aid from Bulgaria is classified.
The Ministry of Defense of the country says that the equipment was about to be transferred to Ukraine.
“The Ministry of Defense held consultations with Ukraine regarding the coordination of types and volumes of military-technical assista, equipment and ammunition. Information on the amount and type of aid is included in a secret appendix,” the Bulgarian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
As previously reported, 9 C-17 aircraft will be used to deliver weapons to Ukraine from Bulgaria. The United States and Great Britain are helping Bulgaria with the logistics of transporting weapons.
It is known that the S-300 air defense systems will not be transferred to Ukraine, as they are used to protect Bulgaria’s airspace.
