On the night of October 24, widespread power outages occurred in temporarily occupied Crimea following drone attacks on the peninsula’s and Russia’s energy infrastructure.
This was reported by the monitoring resource Exilenova+.
One of the likely causes of the blackout was damage to the 500/220 kV Taman power substation in the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation. It is located on the Taman Peninsula at coordinates 45.18691, 37.20751.
NASA’s FIRMS satellite service detected a thermal anomaly at the substation, which may indicate a fire.
Sevastopol, Simferopol, Yalta, Feodosia, Dzhankoi, Alushta, and Yevpatoria were left without power.
In addition, local residents reported at least four explosions in the Pervomaisky district and the activation of Russian air defense systems near Kerch.
The so-called governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, confirmed that the city was without power, stating that energy infrastructure outside the city had been damaged.
At the same time, Crimea experienced a sharp drop in internet traffic. Specifically, according to preliminary data from NetBlocks, traffic fell to near-zero levels.
The Taman power substation is a 500-kV main power hub through which all four lines of the Russian power bridge across the Kerch Strait pass.
Damage to the power substation could limit the transmission of electricity to the occupied peninsula, particularly to industrial and military facilities.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that on August 20, 2026, Ukrainian drones had already struck this power substation.
At that time, a fire was also reported on its premises, and large-scale power outages occurred across the peninsula.
