Belarusian Territorial Troops begin training near the border with Ukraine and Poland

The conscript training for the Territorial Troops has started in the Brest region of Belarus, which borders Ukraine and Poland.

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced this.

The training camps will include the personnel reception, necessary equipment provision, and preparation for the performance of certain tasks.

The unit commanders will restore the skills of managing their subordinates.

The main attention will be paid to practicing territorial defense tasks with the participation of reinforced units of the Territorial Troops together with units of the Armed Forces.

In particular, the reservists will learn how to use active and passive countermeasures against unmanned aerial vehicles.

Russia and Belarus are preparing for the West 2025 strategic military exercises, which will take place this year on Belarusian territory.

Back in January, a staff exercise was held as part of a set of measures to prepare for joint maneuvers.

Belarusian Territorial Troops

The Belarusian Territorial Troops are a component of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, created to provide defense at the local level.

They are formed from citizens subject to military service who undergo short-term training and are called to duty in case of a threat or emergency.

The main task of these troops is to protect important facilities, control the territory, maintain public order in wartime, and participate in countering sabotage.

Territorial troops started to be formed in the early 2000s, but active deployment of this structure was launched after 2016.

These troops are part of the Armed Forces of Belarus structure but have a separate organization. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus exercises the general command, and the Main Department of Territorial Defense of the Ministry of Defense exercises direct control.

In each region, territorial defense headquarters are established to coordinate actions at the local level. They are usually headed by military commissioners or specially appointed officers who interact with local authorities.
