In Russia, a regiment armed with an Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle missile system, has taken up combat duty.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country.

The new regiment is deployed at the Yasnensky formation of the 13th Rocket Division of the Strategic Missile Forces of the Russian Federation, which is located in the Orenburg Region.

The hypersonic glide vehicle is carried as a MIRV payload by the modified Soviet-era UR-100UTTKh intercontinental ballistic missile.

This is the first Russian missile formation to receive missiles with the Avangard HGVs.

The first regiment with such hypersonic glide vehicles in an incomplete structure was deployed back in December 2019.

Russian propaganda claims that in dense layers of the atmosphere Avangard is able to fly at hypersonic speed, which can reach up to 27 Mach, maneuvering along the course and altitude.

However, the real speed of the Avangard HGV causes continuous disputes among specialists.

It should be reminded that recently it has became known that Russia is curtailing the development and production of promising weapons.

The largest state weapons production program in modern Russian history, on which 20 trillion rubles have been spent over the past 10 years, is being shut down.

The program has ceased to be an Act regulating the purchase of weapons and financing of the defense industry development.

They curtailed the program because of the need to review the priorities of defense financing, taking into account the experience of the military campaign in Ukraine.
