The monthly production of the Ukrainian Bohdana self-propelled artillery system has reached 36 units per month.
This was reported by Army Technology with reference to its own sources.
“Although the Defense Procurement Agency only provided a figure of “more than 20” Bohdana systems per month, another source told Army Technology that up to 36 systems have already been delivered during this time,” the publication said.
Serial production of the domestic self-propelled artillery system Bohdana began in early 2023. Since then, at least 5 versions of this self-propelled artillery system have been created, using different chassis and cabin configurations.
As early as May 2024, it was announced that the production rate of the Bohdana self-propelled howitzers would be reached up to 10 per month. And in late October 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine was producing up to 20 Bohdana self-propelled wheeled artillery pieces per month.
At the end of March 2025, according to a statement by a representative of the manufacturer to journalists, production reached “20 or more” vehicles per month.
At the same time, according to the manufacturer, in order to secure production, it was dispersed across several different locations, including abroad. It also introduced duplication of production – no part is made in just one location. This was done to ensure that even if a particular production site was hit, the production process would not stop.
The cost of one Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system ranges from €2.3 to 2.8 million. The price likely depends on the chassis used for a particular system.
According to Arsen Zhumadilov, director of the Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense, more than 85 percent of the parts needed for Bohdana are produced in Ukraine. This figure is expected to rise to 95 percent by the end of 2025.
Ukrainian artillerymen generally praise the system for its high accuracy and good barrel life. According to them, they can fire 7-8 thousand rounds from the artillery system without significant loss of accuracy. In addition, according to them, the accuracy is even higher than that of Western artillery systems. However, the artillery system still has problems with the reliability of certain components, including the afterburner.
The Bohdana self-propelled artillery system has already been adopted by at least 18 brigades of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, including artillerymen of the Army, Marines, National Guard, and even a consolidated brigade of the National Police. It has also been seen in service with the DIU Special Forces.
The army also received the first Bohdana-B towed cannon, which was armed with the 47th Artillery Brigade. Its prototype was publicly presented at the end of last year. Currently, Bohdana-B uses a carriage from the Soviet Hyacinth-B gun. This is due to the need for rapid development, but by the end of 2025 it will receive a new carriage.
