Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the center of Dobropillia city, Donetsk region, on Tuesday evening, targeting an area with civilian infrastructure.
Radio Liberty reports that the strike occurred shortly after 5 p.m., as residents were returning home from work.
One of the main impacts was on the Aurora shopping center, which was crowded at the time.
According to Donetsk regional military administration Vadym Filashkin, one person was killed and at least 21 civilians were injured as of 8 p.m. local time.
Dobropillia lies roughly 15 kilometers from the current front line. Regional officials condemned the strike as another deliberate attack on a civilian area, accusing Russian forces of pursuing a campaign of terror against Ukrainian towns near the battlefield.
Earlier this month, on July 6, Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces have been systematically targeting emergency responders operating in frontline areas.
