A classified client ordered air defense systems from German Rheinmetall.
The manufacturer reported that the order value is in the mid-double-digit million euro range.
Rheinmetall often does not disclose its customers, but usually indicates the region or that the country is a member of NATO.
This time, however, the customer is simply referred to as an “international client.”
“Rheinmetall has been contracted by an international customer to supply air defense systems,” the statement reads.
The order also includes ammunition and spare parts.
“The order value is in the mid-double-digit million euro range,” Rheinmetall said.
The concern also emphasizes that the agreement is of great importance to Rheinmetall.
“It underscores the high degree of confidence in Rheinmetall’s world-leading expertise in the field of ground-based air defense,” the concern said.
Rheinmetall’s portfolio includes stationary, mobile, and naval air defense systems.
Last year in December, German media reported that Ukraine could allegedly receive Skynex air defense systems from Rheinmetall. Skynex is designed for short-range air defense. The system is capable of shooting down drones or cruise missiles with 35 mm ammunition.
The system has already demonstrated its ability to defeat a small swarm of small drones. The use of Rheinmetall’s Ahead programmable 35 mm ammunition is significantly cheaper than similar air defense systems based on guided missiles. When fired, these ammunitions are not affected by electronic countermeasures.
