4 more HIMARS. The US will provide Ukraine with a new $400 mln aid package

The President Joe Biden administration will provide Ukraine with four more HIMARS systems and high precision ammunition.

This was reported by a high-ranking defense official, writes CNN.

“The $400 million package includes four additional HIMARS and additional ammunition for those HIMARS; three tactical vehicles to “recover equipment, support Ukrainian efforts to repair, resupply as the battle continues;” 1,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition; demolition munitions; counter battery systems; and spare parts and other equipment,” — the official said.

He stressed that the United States will provide a “new type” of artillery ammunition.

“It (ammunition – ed.) has greater precision. It offers Ukraine precise targeting, precise capability for specific targets; it will save ammunition, it will be more effective due to the precision, so it’s a further evolution in our support for Ukraine in this battle for the Donbas,” the official said.

The publication emphasized that in general, the United States provided Ukraine with 12 highly mobile systems, taking into account 4 additional ones.

In addition, Jack Detch, the Foreign Policy magazine reporter informed that more than 100 Ukrainian military personnel have trained in the United States to use these systems.

“U.S. has trained more than 100 Ukrainian troops on the HIMARs multiple launch rocket system,” he wrote, referring to a senior U.S. military official.

Ukraine has received 8 HIMARs systems from the U.S. and 4 more are on the way. The UK and Germany have also pledged MLRS systems.

Recall that recently the General Staff of the Armed Forces published a video of the American missile systems HIMARS work.

M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) uses a 6-wheel chassis of an M1140 FMTV tactical truck.

The system can be used as a rocket launcher with ammunition of different ranges, and as a tactical missile system.
