Ukrainian paratroopers received 40mm grenades that were manufactured in Ukraine.
Petro Poroshenko, the fifth President of Ukraine, handed over the batch of grenades and equipment to several brigades.
The 25th Airborne Brigade received Ukrainian PGOF-40 grenades with equipment.
The 80th Air Assault Brigade also received bath and laundry mobile facilities and five DAF trucks.
Currently, in hostilities, PGOF-40s are used to drop from converted drones capable of carrying explosives.
At some point, they were produced for Ukrainian UAG-40 automatic grenade launchers, which never became a mass weapon in the military.
At the same time, the UAG-40 grenade launcher successfully passed state tests in December 2017.
In 2018, the Kuznia na Rybalskomu enterprise developed the Piranya self-propelled platform, which was armed with this grenade launcher.
In 2018, Ukraine also announced the launch of the Ukrainian PGOF-40 grenade production.
The Impulse enterprise, together with the Kuznia na Rybalskomu enterprise, carried out the mass production of ammunition for a 40mm automatic grenade launcher. However, later, their production was stopped, and they were left in the warehouses of the enterprise.
The PGOF-40 40x53mm high-explosive grenade meets NATO standards for ammunition for automatic grenade launchers.
Compared to the 30mm grenades currently used in most automatic grenade launchers in service with the Ukrainian military, the 40mm grenade has more power and spans of fragments.
