The soldiers of the 14th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment, together with the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, Russia.
Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported about this on Telegram.
As a result of the strike by attack drones, a fire broke out at the Russian refinery.
“Afipsky Oil Refinery (Krasnodar Krai, Russia) – 6.25 million tons of oil per year (2.2% of the total volume) – operation performed by the 14th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment jointly with the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine,” Brovdi wrote.
Local residents who witnessed the event said they woke up around 3 a.m. due to loud noises.
In total, 6 to 8 powerful explosions were heard in the settlement of Afipsky, according to local social media pages. Videos of the fire at the facility, published by Astra, have also appeared.
Later, the ChP Krasnodar and Krai Telegram channel reported that one of the units at the oil refinery caught fire due to ‘falling debris’.
“A total of 21 people and 8 units of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fire covering an area of 20 square meters,” the Telegram channel added.
Also, during the night, the airport in the city of Sochi was closed for aircraft arrivals and departures.
The Afipsky oil refinery has an annual processing capacity of 6.25 million tons, which accounts for over 2% of Russia’s total oil refining volume. The facility plays an important role in supplying diesel fuel to the Russian economy and military.
