The UK government will ramp up naval support for Ukraine within a 10-year security pact to be signed in the coming weeks.

The Telegraph reported on this.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with relevant intelligence and military assistance to counter Russia.

In addition, the agreement contains post-war support for Ukraine and security guarantees that will protect it from a new conflict with Russia.

The UK government will focus on bolstering Ukraine’s maritime capabilities as part of the planned memorandum.

In addition to the two Sandown-class minehunters, Chernihiv and Cherkasy, the Babcock-owned Rosyse shipyard currently has a P-50U missile craft in an unknown condition under construction for the Ukrainian Navy.

In addition, the UK industry is currently building Type 31 frigates, which are reasonably priced and could improve the capabilities of the Ukrainian fleet in the future.

The Royal Navy has already been training Ukrainian de-mining specialists on crew-less submarines.

The new deal will build on a recent announcement that the UK will lead a “Maritime Capability Coalition” alongside Norway to deliver two Royal Navy Sandown-class minehunters to Ukraine.

In addition to strengthening the fleet and supplying Ukraine with relevant intelligence information, the UK will also provide military equipment and air assets.

This should help Ukraine’s forces become more “interoperable” with NATO as soon as possible, enabling closer cooperation between defense companies and training of military personnel.

Militarnyi previously reported that the UK Government and UK defense industry conducted their first trade mission to Ukraine and signed a series of agreements.

Led by the Department for Business and Trade and the Ministry of Defence, the joint trade mission took place on 13-14 December. Meetings in Kyiv continued discussions opened at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition in London.
