The German Ministry of Defense has removed all heavy weapons from the list of military aid submitted by Ukraine.
Militarnyi informs about this.
The German newspaper Bild, which has access to both Ukrainian and German lists, writes that the German Federal Ministry of Defense, at the insistence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s office, has removed all heavy weapons from the list of military aid to Ukraine.
The publication notes that the German industry however is ready to supply many of the canceled weapons in the short to medium term.
According to Bild, the Ukrainian side requested a number of heavy weapons from Germany: Leopard 2 tanks, Puma and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Boxer armored personnel carriers, and Fuch armored personnel carriers.
In addition, Ukraine informed the Federal Government and the German defense industry about the need for multiple rocket launchers and anti-ship missiles, as well as Milan and Spike anti-tank missile systems.
At the urging of Olaf Scholz’s office, the initial list of possible military aid compiled by the German Ministry of Defense has shrunk from 48 to 24 pages.
In particular, all heavy weapons that the German industry wanted to sell to Ukraine were excluded from the list. Out of Ukraine’s original 15 weapon requests, only three weapon systems remained – some with the alternatives to the original requests.
The German newspaper notes that the total cost of all “consolidated” German weapons for Ukraine is only 307 million euros, although the German government has announced the allocation of 1 billion euros going to Ukraine.
The German list of weapons supplied to Ukraine includes vehicles, personal equipment, sensors and reconnaissance equipment, ammunition, logistics support, small arms, and other equipment.
The publication notes that the vehicles include all-wheel-drive vehicles, armored trucks and buses, and almost 100 MAN HX81heavy tractors for fast transportation of armored vehicles. Yet there are no heavy weapons on the German list.
Previously, Militarnyi had already announced the intention of German companies to supply Ukraine with Leopard 1A5 tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and 155-mm Pzh 2000 anti-aircraft guns.
