Ukraine has recently received a new batch of surface-to-air missiles for its Patriot air defense systems.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a meeting with journalists, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He emphasized that international partners continue to supply the necessary munitions to keep these systems operational. The Patriot systems were provided to Ukraine as part of military assistance aimed at strengthening the country’s defense against Russian attacks.
“As of now, partners are continuing to supply missiles for Patriot systems. In particular, a new batch arrived in recent days. And we are continuing to work with all our partners to ensure that air defense is maintained,” Zelensky said.
Last week, the president expressed concern about a possible reduction in the supply of U.S. missiles for Patriot systems, capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles, amid the prolonged military campaign by the United States and Israel against Iran.
As is known, Ukraine currently receives most of the interceptor missiles for these air defense systems under the PURL program – funded by European countries through voluntary contributions.
However, some countries also supply anti-aircraft missiles from their own stockpiles. In March, it was reported that the Spanish government would send Ukraine five PAC-2 version missiles for the Patriot system.
In addition, last month Germany, together with its NATO partners, assembled a batch of around 35 PAC-3 interceptors for Ukraine, which are used to shoot down ballistic missiles.
