During a meeting with the head of the White House, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky asked for Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine.

During a closed-door meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York, Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly asked for long-range missiles, several international media outlets report.

In the end, Zelensky personally confirmed on the Axios show that during the meeting he had indeed asked the US president for an additional weapons system for Ukraine.

According to him, the main argument in favor of such a decision should be to increase the likelihood of a ceasefire.

“Such high-tech weapon systems will help Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table to discuss a peace agreement,” the Ukrainian president said.

He added that the mere possibility of launching full-fledged strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow, could strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position – even without the actual use of such weapons.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump responded: “We will work on it.”

Currently, there is no reason to assume that this weapon system will be deployed in Ukraine.

The Tomahawk has a range of up to 1,000 miles (over 1,600 kilometers), which is far greater than the capabilities of the US ATACMS multiple launch rocket system (approximately 190 miles), which is actively used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Tomahawk also exceeds the speed and combat capabilities of many Ukrainian attack drones, which can attack targets in Russia but often encounter modern air defense systems.

It is worth noting that the previous US president refused a similar request, which was part of a ten-point ‘victory plan’ that Zelensky presented at the end of Joe Biden’s term.

At the time, Washington believed that providing such missiles was too risky because of their range and the extent of possible damage.

In addition, the Dutch government has recently abandoned plans to integrate Tomahawk TTL missiles into its submarines due to the high cost and time required to resume production of these missiles in the torpedo-launched version.
