The Zaporizhzhia Sich Brigade has received a batch of Ukrainian 155-mm Bohdana artillery systems.
The 55th Separate Artillery Brigade said they received them for the first time in October last year.
Young soldiers staff the brigade’s artillery. The senior gunner in one of the units is only 22 years old.
The senior gunner with the call sign Lunka shared that the built-in automatic deployment system of the equipment helps a lot.
It takes a minute and a half to bring the vehicle into the combat position and the same amount of time to put it into the transport position.
Bohdana also has a loading mechanism for artillery ammunition.
However, a video of combat operations shows that the Ukrainian military does not use a loading mechanism and does everything manually.
An artillery unit with a 155-mm cannon of 52 caliber has a rate of fire of five rounds per minute. The transportable ammunition is 20 155-mm shells.
The horizontal angle of the gun is between -30 and 30 degrees, and the elevation is between -5 and 65 degrees. The range of fire is up to 40-42 km.
Communication equipment in the combat vehicle is represented by a digital radio station and telephone communications.
It was also recently reported that Ukraine will produce the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system on two chassis at once.
Currently, the Ukrainian industry is focused on producing wheeled howitzers on the chassis of the Czech Tatra Phoenix 8×8 truck. Upon arrival, the vehicles are armored and retrofitted to allow for the installation of an artillery section with a 155-mm cannon.
