The United States of America has announced the termination of co-financing of the Ukrainian Science and Technology Center (USTC).
This decision was the result of President Donald Trump’s signing of a memorandum on the country’s withdrawal from 66 international organizations, agencies and commissions, DOU reports, citing the White House.
The US administration explained that some of these organizations, according to the president, promote policies and ideologies that contradict American values, sovereignty, and economic interests.
The withdrawal means a complete cessation of funding and membership fees from the United States, which will directly affect the activities of the Ukrainian Science and Technology Center, which has long received a significant portion of its budget from American donors.
The USYC was established in 1993 by Ukraine, the United States, Canada, and the EU during the period of Ukraine’s nuclear and chemical disarmament.
Its task was to engage former defense and military-industrial specialists in peaceful research and applied projects to reduce the risks of proliferation of dangerous knowledge and materials.
