The USA opposes restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine and defense industry within the framework of a peace agreement with Russia.

Bloomberg reported on this, citing its own sources.

It is expected that such demands would be voiced by US special envoy Steve Witkoff during the next meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Journalists highlight that agreeing to a properly equipped and fully staffed military, as requested by Ukraine and its European allies, would require Russia to abandon one of the key objectives announced by Putin for the full-scale invasion – the demilitarization of Ukraine.

Sources also told the agency that the United States wanted Russia to return control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine. Under the Trump administration’s plan, the plant would then come under American control, supplying electricity both to Ukraine and to areas currently under Russian occupation.

In addition, the United States wants to ensure Ukraine’s access across the Dnipro River and regain control of the territories in the Kharkiv region occupied by Russia.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Donald Trump administration had shown both Ukraine and Russia the path to peace and the way forward. Now, both sides must say “yes,” as quoted by Ukrinform.

Rubio made these comments when Trump asked him to provide an update on the negotiations.

“First and foremost, we presented our partners with options to discuss the things needed to end the war. This war can be ended. Both sides have to agree to that. We have shown them the way forward,” said the US Secretary of State.

He added that discussions on those ideas had taken place.

“Yesterday was a good meeting. There will be good meetings over the weekend. We showed them the way forward. We need both of them (Ukraine and Russia – ed.) to say yes,” continued the U.S. Secretary of State.

Previously, Marco Rubio had also stated that the US would withdraw from mediating the peace process if a clear path to peace, supported by both Ukraine and Russia, was not found.
